Summer Detox weekend 21-23 May 2010

Detox, relax and immerse yourself in Ayurveda in beautiful countryside outside Bath. This weekend is designed to provide a ‘toolkit’ to help you live a more balanced life.   Ayurveda recommends detoxing to eliminate any dosha imbalances that naturally build through the seasons.  We can all get a bit under the collar in a hot, humid August.  We’ll learn how to keep what is known as Pitta dosha (or internal heat) in balance over the Summer, as well as carrying out a simple detoxification. Ayurvedic detox remedies, such as Aloe Vera juice and Triphala, are provided to aid a digestive cleanse. You will go home feeling energised and inspired!

“I had a blissful weekend, it really DOES feel like the world was escaped for longer than two days and the good effects are definitely still with me (albeit a little more jaded now, trying to work in a noisy office that’s having building work done only a few feet away)… but peace and love remains! Thanks once again for an inspiring and beautifully soul cleansing weekend!”

  • Venue: Littleton Mill, a beautifully restored 17th Century working Mill set in lovely grounds and surrounded by water. Run entirely on renewable energy, it’s the home well being company Jiva Healing. Click here for more info on the venue including its impressive committment to being sustainable.
  • Travel: Chippenham Station(15 minutes drive) or Westbury Station (10 minutes drive) with direct trains from London. Lift sharing will be encouraged where possible.
  • Yoga: 2 Hatha yoga classes (90 minutes).  Beginners to advanced catered for though some experience is necessary. Sessions will include pranayama, asanas and relaxation.
  • Ayurveda workshops: Three workshops cover the basic theory, as well as how to apply its practical wisdom to looking and feeling our best through bodycare and nutrition.  You will learn about which doshas you are predominant in, as well as ways to bring them back into balance. You’ll sample simple home remedies for spring health; learn how to clean the nose using a neti pot; make face scrubs and masks good enough to eat; as well as simple fresh chutneys to bring the six Ayurvedic tastes to a meal.

  • Treatments available: A number of massage treatments and facials are available.
  • Food: Organic, seasonal and locally sourced vegetarian meals with an emphasis on low wheat, dairy and refined sugar to allow the body to detox. The day begins with a detoxifying shot of Aloe vera or barley grass. The menus will incorporate Ayurvedic healing recipes such as a cooling ‘kitchadi’ recipe to remove excess heat.

Testimonials:

“The whole weekend has been amazing- I  didn’t realise how much relaxation and contemplation I would be able to achieve in a weekend. Fantastic setting with a lovely pool wonderful! I feel like I’ve been away for days and days.”

“Overall the weekend was excellent, and difficult to improve upon. The food, yoga, massage were all great, in gorgeous surroundings and I particularly enjoyed the good company, and swapping shared wisdom. Thank you!”

“I loved the yoga which was pitched at just the right level. It was also good to learn how yoga can be incorporated into daily life, and after the weekend my general understanding of yoga has deepened”.

“The location was absolutely beautiful and I enjoyed the walks very much, as well as the view and looking at the stars. The energising and relaxing yoga sessions were pure bliss. The fact that classes were small was also a real bonus. I found the silent mediation walk a very peaceful way to start the though, though would never have thought of it before”.
