Ayurvedic Relaxing Massage with warm sesame oil (60/ 75/ 90 minutes)

Good for removing tension, reducing stress, and calming the nervous system especially for  stressed out Vata types (Vata is the main dosha involved in the sense of touch- hence massage is very helpful).  Its a gentle (no deep pressure used), rhythmic massage using marma point (vital energy centres) stimulation, to enhance skin tone, improve circulation, detoxify, revitalise and relax body and mind.  Ideal with symptoms such as stress, insomnia, poor energy levels or immunity, and chronic pain or musculo-skeletal problems. Ideally followed by a steam bath.

Ayurvedic Balancing Massage with warm sesame oil (60/ 75/ 90 minutes)

A deeper massage using firm, deep strokes with hands, thumb, fingers, knuckles, fist, forearm and elbow.  This massage reduces imbalances in the body, as well as relaxing and rejuvenating. Ideal with stress, anxiety, exhaustion and all Vata dosha disorders (eg: nervous system imbalance)  This massage balances Vata in the deeper tissues, relieving muscular and joint pain and releasing accumulated tension.  It is especially relevant for worn our bodies due to excessive physical or mental exhaustion. Ideally followed by a steam bath.

AyurYoga Massage with warm sesame oil and Vacha powder (90/ 120 minutes )

This unique treatment combines Ayurvedic massage techniques with Iyengar therapeutic yoga. Both warm sesame oil and an Ayurvedic herbal powder, called Vacha (Acoris Calamus) are used. This not only detoxifies, but is anti septic, anti-inflammatory and exfoliating. The combination of both is pure alchemy! This treatment prana (vitality) to the body; detoxifies the musculoskeletal system and blood;  encourages flexibility and posture; promotes deeper breathing helping release blocked emotions; and soothes the nervous system, promoting a deep relaxation very beneficial for pacifying Vata dosha. The massage is done on a futon, using hands and feet. Ideally followed by a steam bath.

Ayurvedic Kansa Vatki Foot Massage (60 minutes)

Deeply relaxing for tired feet and legs and detoxifying the whole body, this massage is good for anybody, especially if you spend long hours on your feet. It not only relaxes tired feet, but improves blood and lymphatic circulation, enhances lower limb mobility, restores energy levels, promotes sound sleep, relieves tired eyes, and lowers aggravated Pitta dosha (excess heat in the body). Working the marma points on the feet and legs is a great aid to detoxifying internal organs.  At the heart of this massage is the small Kansa Vatki, “three-metal bowl” with therapeutic effects: anti-inflammatory (copper), antiseptic (zinc), soothing (tin). The bowl is rubbed under the soles of the feet and lower limbs with ghee or coconut oil. This draws out heat and toxins, and stimulates the marma points in the feet resulting in an incredible sense of relaxation- definitely one to try! Can be combined with an ayurvedic head massage for a head to toe treat.

Ayurvedic head, neck and shoulder massage (50 minutes)

A seated massage which relaxes, detoxifies, de-stresses, encourages healthy hair growth, and balances the body’s energy system.  Works on the upper back, arms, shoulders, head, neck and face with chakra balance at the end. Good for: eyestrain, migraine, tension headaches, blocked sinuses, irritability, insomnia, and knots in the shoulders.  This massage also triggers the release of endorphins, leading to contentment and happiness, and increases the alpha state of brain. It is done with Bhringaraja Oil which nourishes and strengthens hair, treats baldness, early greying, insomnia, anxiety and inflammatory head problems (headaches, sinusitis and ear infections due to high pitta dosha and excess heat in the head region). Can be combined with an ayurvedic foot massage for a head to toe treat.

Shirodhara warm oil treatment (60 minutes)

This sublime therapy works on cerebral system, relaxing the nervous system and balancing Vata in the head region. It is used to treat all aggravated Vata complaints such as insomnia, stress, anxiety, depression, hair loss and fatigue.  It also helps treat  high blood pressure.  Treatment starts with a short head massage, then a continuous stream of warm oil on the forehead (third eye), finishing with a gentle scalp massage. This leads to a sense of deep relaxation and inner peace, usually only be achieved through regular meditation.  In India, Shirodhara is given for 7 days in a row. A good compromise in the Uk is to come for a treatment once a week until the desired effect is achieved (minimum of 7 treatments).  A one off treatment is £50 and you take home 1 litre of organic sesame oil which you can use for self massage. For 7 treatments, each session is £40.

“The effect of the constant stream of warm oil is the most relaxing experience I can recall, and from a technique I had not even heard of three months ago. When we first met in October I was on a blood pressure reducing drug at 10mg. Shirodhara has contributed to my doctors reducing that to 2.5mg with the prospect of being able to come off the drug completely in the near future”.

Steam bath (15 minutes)

After your massage you can also take an Ayurvedic  steam bath to ensure the deep penetration of oil into the skin and the removal of aggravated doshas and toxins. The use of steam to encourage sweating has long been recognized as a natural and effective way to encourage the process of detoxification.
